Reducing Cross

Reducing Cross - Butt-Weld Pipe Fitting

A reducing butt-weld cross connects four pipes where not all outlets are the same size. This single fitting handles the transition from a larger main to smaller branches, reducing the number of welds and individual fittings required in a manifold or distribution header. Manufactured to BS EN 10253-2 and ASME B16.9, the run and branch combinations are tailored to your design requirements.

All reducing crosses are supplied with bevelled weld ends for full-penetration butt welding. Each fitting is supplied with heat numbers and material test certificates, providing complete traceability from raw material through to the finished product.

Standards & Materials

Produced in accordance with BS EN 10253-2 and ASME B16.9 in carbon and stainless steel grades suitable for UK process and utility pipework.

Dimensions & Sizes

Available in run and branch combinations from 1/2" (DN15) up to 24" (DN600) in schedules 10, 40 and 80. The table below lists the most common reducing cross size combinations.

Reducing Cross Size Combinations – ASME B16.9
Run (Inch) Run DN Outlet (Inch) Outlet DN
2" 50 ¾" 20
2" 50 1" 25
3" 80 1½" 40
4" 100 2" 50
6" 150 3" 80
8" 200 4" 100

Performance & Benefits

A single reducing cross replaces a conventional equal tee with a reducer, eliminating at least one weld joint and reducing overall fitting length. The result is a more compact manifold layout, lower material cost and fewer potential leak paths. Streamlined internal geometry also reduces turbulence at the branch take-off, improving flow efficiency in distribution systems.

Typical Applications

Ideal for compact manifolds, retrofit tie-ins and process skids across the UK where multiple different branch diameters meet at a single point. Commonly specified in petrochemical secondary distribution piping, building-services risers, cooling-water manifolds and fire protection systems where space and weight savings are critical.

Quality Assurance & Traceability

Every fitting is manufactured to BS EN 10253-2 and ASME B16.9 and supplied with full material traceability and EN 10204 Type 3.1 test certificates. Heat numbers are recorded throughout production to support inspection, QA and UK project-compliance requirements.

Supply & Delivery

Stocked at our Sheffield, UK facility and delivered nationwide across England, Scotland and Wales. We offer fast dispatch from stock with tracked UK delivery to site, and next-day options for common sizes.

  • Which sizes and schedules are available?

Available from ½" (DN15) to 24" (DN600) in schedule 10, 40 and 80, in both metric and imperial sizes to suit UK installations.

  • Can you provide material certificates?

Yes. Material test certificates and full traceability documentation are available with every order, to project and quality-management requirements.

  • Can the run and outlets differ in wall schedule?

Yes. The run and individual outlets can be produced to different wall thickness schedules to match the connected pipe. When ordering, specify the required schedule for each port so the fitting is manufactured to suit your piping design.

  • Do you deliver across the UK?

We deliver nationwide throughout England, Scotland and Wales, with fast dispatch from stock and tracked deliveries to site.
