Long Pattern Stub End

Butt-Weld Fitting

Long Pattern Stub End

Long Pattern Stub End - Butt-Weld Pipe Fitting

A long pattern stub end has an extended straight section between the weld end and the lap face. The extra length simplifies welding and alignment, particularly on larger diameters and thicker-wall pipe, saving valuable erection time. Manufactured to BS EN 10253-2 and ASME B16.9, the long pattern is the standard choice for heavy-wall and large-bore services.

Each stub end is bevelled to ASME B16.25 for full-penetration butt welding and supplied with heat numbers and material test certificates for full traceability through the supply chain.

Standards & Materials

Produced in accordance with BS EN 10253-2 and ASME B16.9 in carbon and stainless steel grades suitable for UK process and energy pipework.

Performance & Benefits

The extended body of a long pattern stub end provides additional clearance for welding equipment and acts as a heat sink, protecting the machined lap face from weld distortion. The extra straight length also simplifies fit-up during orbital welding and gives the welder greater access for manual welds on site. It is the preferred pattern for large-diameter, heavy-wall and critical-service applications.

Typical Applications

Used across UK process and energy installations where the extended body provides a convenient heat sink and simplifies fit-up during orbital welding. Commonly specified in petrochemical process piping, power-station feedwater lines, refinery heat exchanger connections and heavy-wall cryogenic services.

Quality Assurance & Traceability

Every fitting is manufactured to BS EN 10253-2 and ASME B16.9 and supplied with full material traceability and EN 10204 Type 3.1 test certificates. Heat numbers are recorded throughout production to support inspection, QA and UK project-compliance requirements.

Supply & Delivery

Stocked at our Sheffield, UK facility and delivered nationwide across England, Scotland and Wales. We offer fast dispatch from stock with tracked UK delivery to site, and next-day options for common sizes.

  • Which sizes and schedules are available?

Available from ½" (DN15) to 24" (DN600) in schedule 10, 40 and 80, in both metric and imperial sizes to suit UK installations.

  • Can you provide material certificates?

Yes. Material test certificates and full traceability documentation are available with every order, to project and quality-management requirements.

  • What is the difference between long pattern and short pattern stub ends?

Long pattern stub ends have a longer straight body (F dimension) between the weld end and the lap face compared to short pattern. The extended length provides more clearance for welding equipment, acts as a heat sink and simplifies fit-up. Short pattern stub ends have a more compact body and are used where space is limited.

  • Do you deliver across the UK?

We deliver nationwide throughout England, Scotland and Wales, with fast dispatch from stock and tracked deliveries to site.
